Rationale...

For a while I couldn’t narrow my ideas down, I didn’t have an idea strong enough to stick with so ended up experimenting with images and seeing which I preferred. My research eventually drew me towards music videos and a few films and this is where my final idea grew from.

The first idea I wanted to pursue was about an article I found called ‘Manhattan’ it was about business people in the city and how they ignore the outside world and it seems like they are programmed to go from a to b without any distractions. After a group tutorial I felt I didn’t have enough ideas and information to take this idea any further although I experimented with a few images to see if that sparked any more ideas.

The image I produced for the first idea did in fact sparked off more ideas as the background was made from the matrix style number graphic. I wanted to somehow make an image of a person completely out of words/numbers. I started to research into the future and how scientists have a theory that eventually at birth we will be implanted with a micro chip somewhere in our body which will replace everything, it will store our medical records, replace or credit cards and become our passports and also how we will be identified by just a number. I felt this idea was strong so started to search YouTube for tutorials on how to make an image out of text. After finding one that I could understand I started to experiment.

I started with a dystopian view on my idea although I feel there are positive elements to it, it would make life easier, cut down queues in airports, save us from loosing money and identity theft.

I think this image would fit well in a magazine article warning us about scientist’s plans to implant microchips, I feel it would work well in a male magazine or newspaper but maybe for a woman’s magazine it would work better being a woman model.

I have learnt a lot about Photoshop from this brief that I didn’t know before, which I’m sure will be useful in the future, the thing I feel will be most useful is the layer masks as these can be used to edit a wide variety of images to create different effects.

There are already US sites dedicated to protesting against being micro chipped and I feel there would be a very split opinion on it if it is announced. These days’ people can take a little while to adapt to new technology but once they do it becomes very popular. I think people would start off not being keen on the idea but then once they see the positive side of it they will all want to be involved.

I did struggle at the start with this project to gather together a strong idea; I felt everything I thought of didn’t have enough to it to pursue. Towards the end I was feeling more confident although I feel I needed more time to expand on my idea. The reason I didn’t enjoy this project as much is because it didn’t really involve going out taking pictures, I took a few but they were highly edited.  I feel the positive about this project has been what I have learnt on Photoshop.
